The Company, founded in 1977, has been involved in the supply of medical and surgical instruments and equipment and a wide ranging knowledge of hospital procedures has been acquired. The founder, Robert McLintic, is a Licentiate of the British Institute of Surgical & Dental Technicians. The Company is family owned and managed. Sales to hospitals are the responsibility of Paul McLintic who regularly visits hospitals all over the United Kingdom.

One area where the Company specialised was the manufacture of medical devices to assist with the prevention of pressure sores or decubitus ulcers. This includes high technology mattresses and supports for operation theatres, recovery rooms, accident departments and other high dependency areas. The majority of hospital operation theatres in the U.K. are now equipped with Charnwood Liquid Displacement Cell Mattresses. Pressure relieving cushions, mainly for wheelchair use and mattresses for both hospital wards and home use are manufactured as part of this range.

People with back problems also benefit from this expertise as most spinal patients need total support along the length of the spine without sacrificing comfort. Spinal support so essential for sufferers of back pain, is often completely misunderstood. A sufferer of back pain may purchase an "orthopaedic" bed to assist with sleeping and to prevent or alleviate pain the following day. These "orthopaedic" mattresses are usually supplied as very firm versions of otherwise standard mattresses. This is often the complete antithesis of what the sufferer actually needs. More recently the Company has looked at the provision of skin care for riders of two wheeled vehicles, powered or otherwise and other sportsmen. Although it is recognised that prevention of skin abrasion is necessary there has been very little effective but lightweight, clothing available for these leisure activities. The Company has now introduced its range of K-Liners, a lightweight range of underclothing, utilising Du Pont's Kevlar, a material four times stronger than steel!

Within Europe, legislation requires all manufacturers of medical devices to be registered. The Company is registered with the Medical Devices Agency in London as manufacturers of Class 1 medical devices. Registration Number CA 00 13 69.
